What Is Root Canal Therapy?
Root canal therapy is a specialized dental treatment designed to save a tooth that has been damaged by deep decay, infection, or trauma, allowing patients to preserve their natural smile and restore oral health. Rather than removing the tooth, this procedure targets the source of pain and infection so the tooth can function normally again. At Brookwood Endodontics Birmingham, patients receive advanced root canal therapy in a supportive environment focused on comfort and long-term results. How Is A Root Canal Performed?
Root canal treatment is performed under local anesthesia to keep patients comfortable throughout the procedure, with sedation available if needed. The endodontist begins by creating a small opening in the tooth to access the infected or damaged pulp, which is then carefully removed. The root canals are thoroughly cleaned, disinfected, and shaped before being sealed with a biocompatible material to prevent reinfection. In most cases, the tooth is then restored with a filling or crown for added strength and protection. Depending on the complexity, a root canal typically takes about 60 – 90 minutes and can often be completed in a single visit.
Root Canal Therapy Reviews
Thankful. My son is on the autism spectrum, and unfortunately, we've had experiences with medical professionals who made it clear they didn't want to treat him. They never actually said those words—they were just "nice nasty."Because of those experiences, I was nervous about our appointment with Brookwood Endodontics. I had already called two "family" dental practices trying to get my son a root canal before realizing he needed an endodontist. From the moment we arrived, the entire staff was incredibly kind. Abby was so warm and engaging with my son, helping him feel comfortable and at ease. Dr. Thomas completed the root canal so quickly and efficiently that I was amazed.Thank you all for putting this mom at ease and for providing such compassionate, excellent care. It meant more than you know.
Brookwood Endodontics was Amazing!Everyone was so skilled, kind and gentle. My root canal was completely painless during and after. I went hiking the afternoon after my procedure 🙂
I know….the words root canal and good experience in the same sentence would be considered an oxymoron, but it’s true!!! Brookwood Endodontics is a great dental clinic. It’s very professional and modern. Dr. Edward’s and Kailyn did a wonderful job. They both made sure that I was comfortable and explained all the steps in the process of my root canal. They even called me the next day to check in and see how I was doing. 10/10 recommend them if you are looking.
Very nice place, great workers who care about what they do. Stopped in the middle of my root canal to add more local pain relievers when I was white knuckling my bed lol. would recommend to friends. Thank you guys
Dr.Stephen Thomas is the BEST of The BEST !!! It’s great feeling, being confident about the Dentist that’s taking care of you !!Actually my latest Dentist tried to send me somewhere else. I said No…….. he’s the ONLY ONE I WANT TO DO A ROOT CANAL on Me.

Am I A Candidate For Root Canal Therapy?
Candidates for root canal therapy typically include individuals experiencing severe tooth pain, especially when chewing or applying pressure, as well as prolonged sensitivity to hot or cold temperatures. Other common signs that point to a need for this treatment include swelling, tenderness, or discoloration in the gums and tooth, or a persistent pimple-like bump near the affected area. Ultimately, anyone with deep decay, a cracked tooth, or dental trauma that has damaged the inner pulp is a prime candidate for this tooth-saving procedure. During a consultation, our team can perform a comprehensive evaluation and determine if a root canal is needed.
