What Is Root Canal Therapy?
Root canal therapy is a specialized dental treatment designed to save a tooth that has been damaged by deep decay, infection, or trauma, allowing patients to preserve their natural smile and restore oral health. Rather than removing the tooth, this procedure targets the source of pain and infection so the tooth can function normally again. At Brookwood Endodontics Birmingham, patients receive advanced root canal therapy in a supportive environment focused on comfort and long-term results. How Is A Root Canal Performed?
Root canal treatment is performed under local anesthesia to keep patients comfortable throughout the procedure, with sedation available if needed. The endodontist begins by creating a small opening in the tooth to access the infected or damaged pulp, which is then carefully removed. The root canals are thoroughly cleaned, disinfected, and shaped before being sealed with a biocompatible material to prevent reinfection. In most cases, the tooth is then restored with a filling or crown for added strength and protection. Depending on the complexity, a root canal typically takes about 60 – 90 minutes and can often be completed in a single visit.
Are You a Candidate for a Root Canal?
Inflamed tooth pulp is often a result of severe tooth decay, a large break, or damage. Dr. Thomas, Dr. Powell, Dr. Edwards, and Dr. Kaple will provide an x-ray and conduct an oral exam to decide if a root canal or other procedure is needed to reduce tooth pain and restore your dental wellness.
A few of the symptoms that might suggest you need a root canal are intense or throbbing dental aches, other lasting dental pain, aching while chewing, and sensitivity to warm or cold temperatures. You may also see swelling concentrated around the lower face or gumline, an obvious pustule on the gum tissues, or color change of a tooth after a trauma.
Root Canal Therapy Reviews
Everyone was so nice and understanding and helped ease the fear I had for my procedure, they made sure I was ok every step of the way and it really made me feel calm and cared for. I hope I never have to come back because who wants to get a root canal but if I do need to I will absolutely use brookwood endodontics again.
My name is Devon Groves, unsure how to switch google accounts😆 But out of no where I was in immense pain, dealt with it for 2 days before calling Brookwood. I originally had an appointment for a week out, but was in so much immense pain by day 3 that they were able to work me in the next day. Turns out I had 2 abscesses, so I got a root canal and that taken care of. They were urgent with taking care of me. I don’t know if I could have waited a whole week. They gave me my life back, and they also have cozy blankets for you!! Literally 10000/10! Staff was SO sweet and caring, and this being my first root canal and first time having abscesses, I had a thousand questions. They were so patient with me and answered everything I wanted and needed to know!
After visiting several offices and being quoted much higher prices elsewhere, I am so grateful I found Brookwood Endodontics.Dr. Stephen Thomas and his entire team were absolutely wonderful — professional, kind, calming, and incredibly attentive from beginning to end.I came in very nervous and in significant pain needing a root canal on tooth #19. They explained everything, made me feel comfortable, and the procedure was honestly far easier than I expected. I even chose nitrous oxide because I was anxious, and the team made the entire experience feel calm and stress-free.What shocked me most is that after the numbness wore off, I had almost no pain at all. I slept perfectly that night and did not even need pain medication. The office itself is beautiful, modern, spotless, and very comforting. Everyone treated me with genuine care, and they even called the next morning to check on how I was feeling.I truly cannot thank Dr. Thomas and his team enough. Highly recommend Brookwood Endodontics to anyone needing a root canal or endodontic care
Dr. Edwards did a great job with my root canal. She and her assistant were very professional yet made me feel at ease. I highly recommend Dr. Edwards.
